Under minimal supervision, provides first level administrative and technical supervision of the general and daily operations of the elevator section of the Technical Trades unit.  Performs work requiring high degree of independent judgment, extensive planning, coordinating, and prioritizing of efforts. Must be familiar with all aspects of vertical transportation equipment; be able to diagnose and correct problems; and follow appropriate maintenance and service procedures.  Work of the Supervisor and his/her elevator mechanics affects the safety of the University\'s faculty, staff and students. Failure to properly inspect, maintain and repair vertical transportation equipment can lead to not only substantial monetary expense but also to accidents involving serious injuries.

Job requires knowledge of performance characteristics, inspections and maintenance procedures necessary for the repair, maintenance and adjustment of elevators, escalators, hoists, dumbwaiters, and other related equipment; knowledge and skill in the use of hand and electrical tools such as grinders, drill motors and coring machines; and knowledge and skill in the use of electrical reading and testing equipment, hoisting and rigging equipment, chain tackles, etc.

Job also requires 72 months progressively responsible experience in elevator maintenance and repair, 24 months experience in a lead or supervisory capacity in the elevator maintenance and repair field, a valid driver's license, and State of Oklahoma Department of Labor license in elevators (or licensed in another state and has ability to obtain State of Oklahoma license).

ELEVATOR MANAGER

The University of Houston (UH) is currently seeking an Elevator Manager to oversee all aspects of elevator service and maintenance for the University and manage the activities of elevator crafts and support personnel in the maintenance of the elevators, escalators and dumbwaiters in all university owned buildings. This position is located at our Main Campus in Houston, TX.

Additional responsibilities include managing the repair, renovation, and replacement of elevators, escalators and other similar equipment; supervising and training assigned personnel and coordinating work schedules; coordinating with operations personnel in the repair and preventative maintenance of equipment; planning, organizing, assigning and reviewing technical maintenance and service work on campus elevators; developing maintenance procedures for new equipment and modifying existing procedures as necessary to ensure optimum operation of system equipment; assisting in the preparation of maintenance budgets, division goals, departmental policy and system documentation; supervising third-party elevator testing and inspections to ensure compliance with Safety Elevator Code; acting as a liaison between University of Houston and State of Texas elevator inspectional services; and performing other job-related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Requires a 4 year degree and a minimum of five (5) years of direct job-related experience
  • Requires technical certification or licensing directly related to the job, as specified on a job description addendum.
