The White Shirts
Collection Sixteen
More often than not field men saw headquarters engineers or draftsmen in a rather dim light, operating as they did in white shirts and comfort - eventually air-conditioning! Installers sometimes felt too much time was spent in the field rectifying the mistakes of the engineers - or of office personnel who neglected to ship all the material and tools needed on the job. The cartoonist played upon this perverse relationship. Some of the larger independent elevator companies and branch offices of the international manufacturers accomplished their own engineering in-house and the humorist played no favorites; they fastening their sights on all such specialists, blasting away with deadly ink! (Chapter Sixteen).
