Conjuring Up the Unimaginable
Collection Twenty-Two
Finally, if pen and ink cannot conjure up the unimaginable in a familiar setting the cartoonist reaches out to develop a contrast between two widely disparate environments. Typical situations attracting our graphic humorists are depicted in Chapter Twenty-Two. We all recognize the guru who has aspired to solitude and meditation. What better intrusion than a modern conveyance? Hot ember walking surfaces, nail-studded beds, cobras and ropes reaching into nothingness are associated with the Indian Sub-Continent. The cartoonist adroitly creates a "clash in a flash" between far-off - or far-back climes - cross-cutting the unfamiliar with the workaday world of vertical transportation. Contrast? Enjoy the primitive cavemen blithely doing unimaginable tinkering related to the elevator field?
