ECNY QEI SEMINAR

The Elevator Conference of New York (ECNY) recently announced an upcoming QEI Maintenance of Qualification Seminar, to take place on February 24-25 at Bruno’s on the Boulevard at 88-25 Astoria Boulevard, Jackson Heights, New York 11369. The event is held for renewal of QEI certification and available to ECNY members only. NAESA International and ECNY will jointly present the seminar, which will be the same on both days. The US$225 registration fee includes coffee breaks and lunch. The registration deadline is February 12. GOVERNMENT TO ISSUE FINES TO HIGH RISES

According to The Nation, the Punjab government recently announced that it had plans to regulate 160 illegal high-rise plazas in Lahore, Pakistan, by issuing fines. This is a major shift in the demolition operation that was launched by the directives of CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif following the Supreme Court’s orders. The fines are proposed to replace the demolition plans. Sources privy to development revealed that the Lahore Development Authority had constituted a committee to regularize the illegal plazas and plans to take stock of the infringements in their construction, in addition to providing recommendations on the imposing fines.

GEORGIA BOY FALLS DOWN ELEVATOR SHAFT

According to PBA Online, investigations have been underway following a January 18 incident in which a five-year-old boy fell 12-15 feet down a public-transit elevator shaft in Decatur, Georgia. According to a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, the unit’s doors “did swing in” when the child pushed on them. The boy “was not badly hurt” and was released from the hospital the same day.
